Did you know that these loveable characters were created by the American Greetings in 1981 for the use on greeting cards. The original artwork for the greeting cards was painted by a very talented artist by the name of Elena Kucharik. Two years later these characters took a leap from the cover of greeting cards right in to our hearts. In 1983 Kenner turned those little guys into plush little stuffed animals that the whole world fell in love with.

Kenner designed each animal in a different color and each one has a specialized insignia on its belly that represents its duty as well as it's personality. The insignia was known as their "tummy symbol".

These loveable characters first appeared in their own television series from 1985 to 1988, in addition to three feature films.

In 2002, the characters were reintroduced with new toys. Made by play-along toys, the new toys offered features such as illuminated bellies upon touch, aerobic teddies, and glow-in-the-dark stuffed animals. As part of this comeback, the stuffed animals came back to life when they appeared in two computer-animated movies.

Once again in 2007, the toy animals were once again relaunched. The 25th anniversary of the toy line was commemorated in 2007, and the Oopsy Does It! movie was released in commemoration of the 25th anniversary. As of 2008 to adorable toy animals were still being marketed.

The trademark and the copyrights in the character designs are currently owned by "Those Characters from Cleveland", part of American Greetings. However on July 23, 2008, American Greetings announced that the toy line would be sold to Cookie Jar Entertainment in an acquisition due to take place on September 30, 2008l As of November 2008, the outcome of the deal is yet to be known.
