The best advantage to a backyard campout is being steps away from your door. To help keep the trips back and forth from your house to a minimum, a strategy is important. Besides typical camping gear, food, beverages and party games are a must. It is easier to visualize a true camping experience if you pretend you will not be in your backyard! Here are some cool tips to help you campout in your backyard.

No matter where you are camping, the first step is to prepare your sleeping supplies. Most campers will pitch a tent, but others are more daring and like to sleep out in the open. If the tent is more your thing, double check to make sure you have all the supplies necessary to build it and hold it up. Most of the time, it is much easier to setup your tent before the campout.

If you’d rather sleep under the stars, keep a close eye on the weather. Although you will be in your own backyard, make sure the weather conditions are suitable to sleep outside without a tent. With or without a tent, you will need a sleeping bag, extra blankets and of course a pillow or two. You can even blow up an air mattress if you would like. If you don’t have one and need one, check your local Walmart or Target as they both have abundant supplies.

After planning your sleeping arrangements, you can prepare for the rest of your evening. When you think of camping, food and bonfires come to mind. You can move your grill closer to your tent, so everyone can enjoy a delicious BBQ. The best part of a campout is making it your own! If grilling is not what you want to do, you can easily prepare a picnic basket the night before.

Besides dinner, pack some snacks and treats to share. These can range from chips, cookies, trail mix, or anything else that is easy. It is much easier to pack dry snacks, making cleanup a breeze. Although it will be easier to keep everything in your house, the real campout experience involves coolers. Using a cooler will help keep all of your beverages and food cold throughout the night. This will help keep everything fresh and keep you from having to go into your house.

Lastly, you will want to pack some games. Bring along water guns, a football, Frisbee, or anything similar. You can also break out the cornhole games or beer pong table for some adult fun. Both of these games have become camping favorites and will be enjoyed by anyone you choose to go camping with. Even though you’ll pack all these games, you may never use them.
